Minorities Rights in India-18th December

 

Every year 18th December is celebrated as Minorities Rights Day in India.

 

Every country has a rich legacy of languages, ethnicity, religions, races, etc. It is the utmost responsibility of every nation to safeguard the rights of the minorities in order to establish true democracy.

There are innumerable instances where a specific minority suffers due to the biased and discriminative policies of the government.

 

To promote the safety of the rights of the minorities the UN has promulgated ‘the Declaration on the Rights of Persons belonging to National or Ethnic, Linguistic and Religious minorities. The UN had decided that:-

 

States shall protect the existence of the national or ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic identity of minorities within their respective territories and encourage conditions for the promotion of that identity.”

 

This announcement was a major step in safeguarding the rights of the minorities worldwide.

 

The Minority Rights Day is celebrate by the National Commission for Minorities on 18th December for raising concern and highlighting the significance of minorities and in strengthening the social fabric at large.
